I love the layout and overall look of this issue of Everyday Magazine by Mikael Ploysand. It was done as a semester assignment at Westerdals School of Communication in 2009.

It’s stimulating, beautifully balanced, and visually striking.

"Everyday Magazine is a magazine about graphic designers & other creatives, focusing on the people behind the works rather than the work itself. The magazine tries to keep to what magazines do best, instead of trying to imitate what the internet already does better. Therefore, the focus is mainly traditional journalism & photojournalism, resulting in a magazine that you sit down and take your time with, a contrast to the restlessness of the youtube-generation."

I absolutely love this book design by Josip Kelava, who by the way, I’m obsessed with.

Anatomy Illustrated is a book designed to showcase the master illustrators of the 16-19th centuries. In particular, it focuses on the illustrator William Cheseldon who was an English surgeon and teacher of anatomy, and who was influential in establishing surgery as a scientific medical profession. His works, along with many other illustrators, have been redesigned to a modern style, incorporating typography as a sense of interaction with the illustrations.”

    North & South

North & South is a project iniciated by Anthony Burrill graphic artist, printmaker and designer. Known for his persuasive, up-beat style of communication his work is hold in a permanent collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum London and in the Cooper-Hewitt Museum New York. Words and language are an important part of Burrill’s output and he has developed a distinctive voice that is sought after not only by collectors of his posters and prints but also by clients including Wallpaper* magazine, The Economist, The British Council, London Underground and The Design Museum.

Working together with some interesting printers and designers he always creates interesting artoworks which make you think. The video above shows you a little sequence of the way he works. The traditional way of typography is still today the most tensious one. Enjoy it!

    Upland Branding

Today we got some news from our followers that yesterday, Midwest-based Upland Brewing Company unveiled some pretty exciting packaging changes. The goal of the new look was simple: to capture the quality, culture and spirit that make us unique. The hand-crafted nature of the beer is reflected in the extensive use of hand-lettered type and illustrations. We love it when a company creates a new packaging and is willing to have an ear on the designer creating all things as fantastic as Young & Laramore did here. So enjoy this packaging and get inspired!

    Type Posters

made by Shrenik Ganatra graphic designer and typographer from Mumbai, India. “Type Posters” is a set of eight experimental, minimalist typographic posters, focusing on the idea of simplicity in design. Each poster consists of contrasting shades of black and white, single typeface and basic geometric elements. With the help of different attributes of a font, such as its size and tracking, he mentions some of his favourite quotes from music, art, about hop and friends, strength and from Martin Luther King Jr. & Abraham Lincoln. We love how minimalistic they are designed and on the other hand how much space they give to the words - Awesome!
